Eggless Hersheys Chocolate Star Bread

Eggless Hersheys chocolate star bread easy recipe with food photography for holiday baking by Indu Vishwanath Singh from A Letter to My food , food photographer based in India

It’s mid January and I still can’t get over this gorgeous Eggless Star Bread I made for Christmas. I absolutely love that it’s all Eggless and that means, it feels so light on the tummy after gobbling up a slice!

With the winters still pitching in, A warm slice of Chocolaty Bread can be real comforting. Who wants an occasion anyways to bake up this gorgeous Star? My favourite part is that I can just roll up this dough and wrap in some chocolate spread and put it in a loaf pan and bake my Babka too! Its just the perfect recipe if you want to make a fancy impression on your friends and guests or just skip the fancy altogether and take the easy Babka route for the home comfort!

Before we dive into the recipe, let me tell you this, you can totally do with a chocolate butter melt for the filling or can go completely the other way with jams and preserves as filling! The options are endless!!

I made this recipe with Ira around, and God help me for the chocolate licks and bottle runs!

Now, lets just jump into this recipe!

Eggless Hersheys Star Bread

Ingredients:

3 1/2 cup All Purpose Flour

1/4 tsp Salt

1/3 cup castor sugar

2 tsp instant dry yeast

200ml water

1/2 cup unsalted butter

150g Hersheys chocolate spread

Method:

  • Mix in the All purpose flour and salt in a mixing bowl

  • Add in the sugar and yeast and give it all a good mix

  • Add in the water little by little and combine to form a semi dry dough

  • Add the butter and form a sticky dough

  • Dust the counter top and knead the dough for about 10 min to make it non sticky and smooth

  • Fold in several times and form a smooth dough ball and let it rest in a greased bowl (airtight) in a warm place until it doubles in size

  • Transfer the dough on the counter and roll it into a thick disk and cut out 4 equal portions and smoothen and fold in to make 4 dough balls of equal sizes

  • Take 1 portion and roll into a disk 1/4” thickness

  • Transfer it carefully to a flat pan lined with parchment paper

  • Spread out a small scoop of Hersheys chocolate spread on the dough evenly

  • Roll out the next dough ball in similar fashion and place it over the chocolate spread dough

  • Repeat for all the dough balls

  • Take a cookie cutter or a small bowl of 2” diameter and make a marking on the centre of the bread dough disc

  • Make 16 equal slits on the outer dough disc (leaving the marked inner circle)

  • Take 2 slit portions and twist it twice and pinch it together to make one spike of the star

  • Repeat with all the other dough slits

  • You’ll have a beautiful looking star

  • Once you like the shape, brush the star with milk lightly

  • Bake the bread in a pre heated oven at 200 degrees C for about 15-18min

  • While it is still warm, brush over with melted butter

  • I dust it with icing sugar for that extra love!
