I am hoping you are doing great!

I’ve been editing since 2004! (Suddenly I feel old!) I was in high school then and learning Adobe Suite, professionally back then seemed like a big big deal! It was just after my training, that I was picked by one of the best graphic design firm in Dubai, to assist the art director! That’s really where I mastered the art of Photoshop!

2007 Lightroom came to being and I drifted into Fashion Design at the university! Then on, my major editing work happened only to touch up fashion illustrations!

When covid hit the world in 2020, I was at a space where I needed self therapy. Something to cope. That when the universe churned me into the world of Lightroom! When you know another editing software from the same parent (Adobe), it becomes easier to learn a new baby!

Mastering Light is what holds ground for photography. As much as all tutors talk about getting it right in camera, I strongly point that there’s a 50/50 relationship here between camera and editing. Yes, you need a decent exposed photo with a nice composition and story to begin with. post that, the editing is what really makes the photo stand out.

One can’t teach it all at once. And I really want this space to have everything you need to master your visual arts!

Lets begin by looking at the Light Tool / Tab on Lightroom App. Here (in the image below) I talk about the different sliders available under the Light tool and what each one’s purpose is.

Let’s also look at a simple video so you get the point straight and clear!

There’s a lot of difference between the raw and edited photo. The story here is to make that cake frosting so wantable and grabable and make it look rich and silky!

I have to add here that practice is key! Pic any photo you have archived. Learn through how differently you can edit the photo and see what makes you content. Once you get a hang of it, its the best form of rejuvenation!

Be it for your own hobby or maybe you want to up your quality to get more paid clients, its only practice and looking and learning other creative’s work, that you’ll really get there, confidently.

I hope this helped you through the first part of editing!

Id love to hear from you, questions, feedback, everything is welcome! Drop it all in the comments below!

I’ll be back with Part 2 - Tone Curve & Histogram.

Until then, keep editing!
